Airlines ease fears over Christmas Day travel

Airlines are promising all Christmas Day travellers will make it to their destinations after at least 80 domestic flights were cancelled yesterday as a result of staff shortages.

Staff on multiple carriers had to get tested and isolate due to close contact rules across the country.

There have been 52 flights in and out of Melbourne already cancelled and of those 35 had already been rescheduled from four days earlier.

Officials say significant delays are not expected today as they have already accommodated most passengers affected by the Christmas Eve chaos.
