Annual inflation heading higher is ‘set in stone’

Barrenjoey Chief Economist Jo Masters says annual inflation heading higher is “set in stone,” and there is nothing monetary or fiscal policy can do about inflation.

“The key question is – have we done enough to be confident that inflation will come down through 2023?” she told Sky News Australia. 

“And I think the answer there is no we haven’t. 

“We have a cash rate that is still in expansionary territory … so we need to do more monetary policy tightening, and we need to see the economy and economic activity slow from here.”
