Chalmer’s promise to stop reckless spending ‘reminds us’ of Labor’s ‘terrible’ record

Sky News host Andrew Bolt says the reason Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers quoted Kevin Rudd about ceasing reckless spending is beyond him because Rudd broke the promise almost the minute he became Prime Minister.

Mr Chalmers addressed the National Press Club on Tuesday, where he “paraphrased another Queenslander”.

He directed his message at Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg to stop the “reckless rorting and wasteful spending”.

“He recklessly plunged the country into debt and no government since has delivered a budget that earned more than it spent,” Mr Bolt said.

“Chalmer's promise reminds us that ... Labor has a terrible record here because what it says before an election on taxes and spending tends not to be what past Labor governments have done after the election.”
