Confetti Test Brightens Times Square Ahead of New Year’s Eve Celebrations

Early shouts of “Happy New Year” were heard at Times Square in New York on December 29 during a confetti test carried out in preparation for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The colorful confetti rained down from the Hard Rock Hotel’s marquee, where 3,000 pounds of it will be released as 2022 is rung in. Much like elsewhere around the world, New York’s celebrations have been scaled back due to COVID-19, with just 15,000 people, a quarter of the normal number, to be in attendance at Times Square. Cris Holzhausen, who was on holidays from Brazil, recorded this video showing the confetti, which was preceded by a countdown. Credit: Cris Holzhausen via Storyful
