Hoppers net big win over Franklin | Sports

The Hoptown Hoppers blasted the Franklin Duelers 12-2 on the road Sunday

The Hoppers improved to 8-6 overall on the year with the win and now sit in fifth place in the Ohio Valley League.

Fred Fernandez led the Hoppers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI on a double and home run.

Drew Donaldson also tallied four RBI while going 2-for-6 with a pair of singles.

Ren Tachioka, Chase Harlan, William Spear and Sean Sullivan each scored two runs apiece.

Marcus Goodpaster picked up the win on the mound, going seven strong innings with one earned run while striking out six and walking four.

Aaron Moss came on and pitched two innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two baserunners and striking out one.

The big inning for Hoptown came in the top of the sixth. The Hoppers were already leading 3-1, but exploded for six runs when Fernandez hit a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs.

Earlier in the weekend, the Hoppers lost a 9-6 game to the Fulton Railroaders on Saturday.

Ronald Brown and Tachioka each had two RBI in the loss.

The Hoppers will be back in action at home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against the 10th-place Muhlenberg County Stallions.
