Poland national football team coach Paulo Sousa is certain that Robert Lewandowski will win this year’s Ballon d’Or.
The winner of the most prestigious individual prize in the football world will be announced on November 29 in the Paris Theatre du Chatelet with Lewandowski the favourite after he scored 54 goals in 45 matches.
Poland coach Paulo Sousa believes that Lewandowski fully deserves the award as “no other footballer was on his level.”
“If Robert had not won the Golden Ball, it would simply be unfair. His regularity at the club, in Bayern, but also the level and style he shows in the national team… Apart from the last matches, he scored in practically every game since I took over the team. He climbed to the highest world level both in terms of consistency in the quality of performances and the enormous number of goals scored,” the Portuguese said in a Tuesday interview for Polish media.
“I’m pretty sure Robert will win because I don’t see any other player who would keep such a level as Lewandowski in the long term,” Paulo Sousa added.
Poland will play Andorra on road in the FIFA World Cup qualifications on November 12, while they will host Hungary in Warsaw three days later. After eight matches, the team coached by Paulo Sousa sit second place in Group I with three points fewer than the leaders England.
