Protest Held in Milan After Senate Blocks Hate Crime Bill

Protesters took to the streets of Milan, Italy, on October 28, after the country’s senate voted down proposed legislation to ban discrimination on the grounds of “sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and disability.” This footage, posted on Twitter by Angelo A Palmeri, shows people singing and shining torches at the Arco della Pace in Milan. The bill, known as the “Zan Bill,” was first proposed by Italian politician Alessandro Zan in 2018. The motion to block the bill was passed in the senate by 154 votes to 131, The Local reported.
