Punters rallied to back a Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr first-starter as soon as betting opened for the two-year-old race at Caulfield on Boxing Day.
A wide barrier draw hasn’t stopped punters from launching an instant betting move on a first-starter at Sunday’s Boxing Day meeting at Caulfield.
Cranbourne training duo Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr will give Rubick colt Jacquinot his first outing in the Frank O’Brien Handicap (1200m).
Jacquinot drew barrier 13 in the 14-strong field to contest the $130,000 contest but TAB customers started backing the colt as soon as prices went up on the race.
Jacquinot opened at $4.80 but instant money pushed his quote into $3.60 in the first hours of betting.
The support for Jacquinot pushed him into favouritism for the two-year-old contest.
Jacquinot has impressed winning his two Cranbourne jumpouts on December 6 and December 13.
Luke Currie will ride Jacquinot on Sunday.
Jacquinot was passed in at the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January.
The youngster is eligible for next month’s $2m Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) but is not among the entries for the rich race.
While the Magic Millions 2YO Classic was not on Jacquinot’s radar at this point, three of his rivals hold entries for the Gold Coast feature.
The Matt Cumani-trained Cover Star is almost certain to get a run in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic after her debut second in the Ballarat Magic Millions Classic last month.
Gold Bucket and Ready To Conquer would need to win Sunday’s Caulfield race to have any chance of making the Magic Millions 2YO Classic field.
