A dramatic siege is underway in a Sydney suburb after an officer was stabbed while responding to a domestic violence incident.
Police have swarmed to a Sydney unit where a dramatic siege is unfolding.
The siege began at a unit on Punt Road in the leafy and ordinarily peaceful suburb of Gladesville this morning at around 11.20am, when a police officer who was responding to a nearby domestic violence incident was stabbed.
According to NSW Police, the officer received lacerations to the back of his head from a knife.
He was rushed to hospital for treatment, and police negotiators are currently at the scene, with one person believed to be inside the unit.
There are now dozens of police officers in the area, including the dog squad, with a police helicopter also flying overhead.
As the operation is ongoing, police have declined to share any further information is available at this stage.
However, traffic diversions are in place on Punt Road, and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
