Top manufacturer laments late rapid antigen test approval

Australia’s hesitant approach to adopting rapid antigen tests has contributed to a squeeze on supply – according to one of the nation’s top manufacturers.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration approved at-home testing from November 1 – several months after other countries.

Before then only negative PCR tests were recognised by health authorities.

Roche Diagnostics Australia has ordered 30 million rapid tests to arrive by March – but said they would have been here sooner if they’d been given the go ahead much earlier.
