United States and NATO reject Russian demands

The United States and NATO have rejected key Russian security demands for easing tensions over Ukraine.

Russia had demanded NATO give a cast-iron guarantee it would never offer membership to Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also requested the two allies withdraw troops and military equipment from countries neighbouring Russia.

The meeting in Geneva was called after around 100,000 Russian troops mobilized on Ukraine’s border, sparking fears of an invasion.
